You might feel the crisp fall air approaching, but we still have a few more weeks of summer to enjoy. Before the season ends, check out our four favorite summer activities in the Washington Court House, OH, area.

Deer Creek State Park

You can get to this Mt Sterling state park in less than 20 minutes from Washington Court House. Deer Creek State Park offers so much to do in the summer, including an 18-hole golf course, campground, and marina. You can explore the history of Ohio with a visit to Harding Cabin, used as a strategy site during Warren G. Harding’s political rise from state senator to US president in the early 1900s.

Deer Creek State Park features family cabins and more than 200 tent sites with electricity. While you’re here, boat and fish on Deer Creek Reservoir, try your hand at the 18-hole disc golf course or explore one of the park’s six hiking trails. Deer Creek State Park is located at 20635 State Park Rd 20. It’s open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Fayette County Farmers’ Market

The Fayette County Farmers’ Market runs through October 21st, so you still have time to stop by for the freshest local produce, baked goods, jams, honey, and meat. You can also pick up plants to start your own garden and browse the handmade items by Ohio crafters and artists.

Check the Fayette County Facebook page for updates about live music, performances, and demonstrations each week. The market takes place every Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at 1650 Columbus Ave and every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at 101 E East St.

Paint Creek Recreation Trail

You can bike, hike, or skate on this paved trail, which uses more than 30 miles of old railways to connect Washington Court House with Frankford and Chillicothe. Along the way, you can see local landmarks like the Shepard’s Run covered bridge.

Formerly known as the Tri-County Triangle Trail, Paint Creek is now the longest scenic trail of its kind in the southern part of the state. You can access Paint Creek Recreation Trail at 2820 Robinson Road.

Fayette County History Geocaching Trail

You can download a free app or use a PDF map with a handheld GPS to join Fayette County’s geocaching treasure hunt. You’ll receive clues to help you find 13 hidden geocaches that reveal highlights of the county’s history. If you successfully complete the geocaching trail, you can deliver the secret code words to receive a commemorative coin from the Fayette County Historical Society.
